‘The Greek Gets a Gift from Santa’

So, the final event for for 2024 was the Santa Decanter run as always on the last weekend of the year. This year the event was at Yarrambat Park, in near perfect conditions setting up a sensational day of competition golf.

While we lost two players at the last minute, the turnout remained great with 9 competitors stepping onto the tee. Everyone was very excited because after this game the club champion for 2024 would be confirmed, albeit obvious who was going to win.

And the result was very close with Stavros the Greek (94,20,74) edging out The Bloke (90,15,75), by a single stroke, with Circuit Board (112,35,77) two strokes back in third place.

This meant Stavros the Greek got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), but there was little impact on The Bloke’s top position on the club championship leader board, confirming him as the likely Club Champion for 2024. (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates Stavros the Greek on a great win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the first major event of 2025, the Australian Masters Open Kup on the long weekend in January at which the new Club Champion 2024 presentation will be held (See SD 2024 event report).

‘TJ steps up at the Bend’

Well, the Melbourne Cup Cup for 2024 was as always run at Yarra Bend on Melbourne Cup Day in perfect conditions. And as usual there was an excellent turn out with 11 contenders stepping onto the 1st tee to compete for one of the most sort after trophies on the nnomads circuit.

And of course, the MCC is a Callaway event, meaning the handicaps for the event were calculated using the Callaway system based on scores on the day.

So, this year it was TJ (97,23,74) who won the day with Curtis (97,21,76), The Bloke (91,15,76) and Markus Octavious (115, 39, 76) in equal second place.

It should be said there was quite some controversy when a mistake in the scoring was discovered after Markus Octavious had been mistakenly awarded 1st place. Markus was very good about it all after experiencing the initial adulation and delivering an excellent acceptance speech as he was handed the MCC trophy by last year’s winner Stavros the Greek. But it was not meant to be.

This meant TJ got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), but there was little impact on The Bloke’s top position on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on another fantastic win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the Santa Decanter in December unless another event pops up before (See Full MCC event report).

Maroon Breasted Warbler

‘Warbler BITs it Again’

So, the Balnarring Invitational Tournament for 2024 was once again run at Flinders Golf Club in perfect course and weather conditions. While player numbers were down due to short notice and a midweek time slot, the quality of the event was up with 6 players playing out of their skins dishing up outstanding performances.

But at the end of the day, but it was the Maroon Breasted Warbler (99,29,70) who won by 4 strokes from Stavros the Greek (95,21,74), and The Bloke (90,15,75) a further stroke behind.

This meant the Maroon Breasted Warbler has won the BIT two years in a row, which was fortunate because he left the BIT Trophy in QLD on the assumption, he would win again Note: Substitute trophy used in photos.

This also meant Maroon Breasted Warbler got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder). It also meant The Bloke was able to move to the top of the leaderboard in the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates Maroon Breasted Warbler on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the Melbourne Cup Cup in early November (See Full BIT and TSCC event report).

Stavros the Greek

‘Stavros outs The Bloke’

As most readers will know, the score card for Balnarring Invitational Tournament is also used to calculate a Callaway handicap which in turn is used to determine the winner of the Tulum Sands Callaway Classic.

And as usual, the Callaway event results were very close ending up in the need for a chip off to separate the top two players being Stavros the Greek (95,22,73) and The Bloke (90, 17, 73).

So, after a couple of practice shots pitching a golf ball at a deflated basketball in Nurse Min’s back yard, it was Stavros the Greek who finally prevailed to take out first place in 2024.

This meant Stavros the Greek got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), but did not Impact on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates Stavros the Greek on a sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the Melbourne Cup Cup in early November (See Full BIT and TSCC event report).

‘TJ Does it Again

So, the first Triggered Major for 2024 was brilliant, with a great turn out of eleven competitors, great course conditions at the Growling Frog, and beautiful weather. Hence, it was perfect conditions for golf.

Several players took advantage of the perfect conditions, but it was TJ (99,22,77) who once again ended out in front, beating equal 2nd place getters Nurse Min (111,30,81), and Billy Bob Thornton (107,26,81) by four strokes.

This meant TJ once again got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), and also moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The Committee note this is TJs 3rd win in 2024, making him a very strong contender for 2024 Club Champion. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, details soon to be released (see Full TM1 2024 event report).

ANZAC Day Medal (ADM), April 2024

Date: 29/03/2024

TJ

‘TJ Does it in the Trenches’

Lest we forget! There were last minute cancelations, and then oncourse withdrawals due to injury, but the 2024 ANZAC Day Medal, remained an event you could not forget. Yarrambat Park was in ok condition and the weather was not problematic setting up what could only be described as a solid day in the trenches.

And at the end of the day when the players climbed out, of the trenches that is, it was close with a single stroke separating the top three players. But it was TJ (96,21,75) who ended out in front beating The Bloke (90,14,76) and Stavros the Greek (94,18,76) in equal 2nd place.

This meant TJ got the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), while The Bloke remained in top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the Victorian Open Master Invitational Tournament (VOMIT) to be run on the long weekend in June. (see Full ADM 2024 event report).

Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup (BBNC), March 2024

Date: 29/03/2024
Course: Growling Frog, Woodstock, Victoria, Victoria

Circuit Board

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘Circuit Board has a Big Nose’

As always, the ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup was run on Good Friday at the Growling Frog amongst hails of ‘Blessed are the cheese makers’ and ‘Blessed are the Big Noses’ as is the tradition on Good Friday. Amongst all this frivolity, there were 8 hardy players who teed off in this years event, promising another fantastic display of competition golf.

So that did not happen, the fantastic display I mean, but Circuit Board (106,36,70) was as close to that as you will get, winning by five strokes over Billy Bob Thornton (102,27,75) with The Bloke (96,15,81) a further six strokes behind. Of note was the fact that this was the first nnomads major event Circuit Board has ever won making the celebrations and presentations particularly special.

This meant Circuit Board earned his first major Bladder points for 2024 (see - Year to date Bladder), while The Bloke remained in top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates Circuit Board on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the ANZAC Day Medal (ADM) to be run on ANZAC Day in April. (see Full BBNC 2024 event report).

Shanksy Invitational Tournament (SHiT), March 2024

Date: 12/03/2024
Course: Gardiners Run, Lilydale, Victoria

The Bloke

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘The Bloke has a SHiT

As most members know, there is one nnomads GC major event that is not run on an annual basis, and that is the Shanksy Invitational Tournament (SHiT), which is only run when Don Johnson visits Australia from his home in the USA. So, this month The Don dropped into Australia for 7 days without any prior notice. This meant the SHiT had to be organised and run with one day’s notice, somewhat limiting the size of the field. That said, six contenders turned up at Gardiners Run on that Tuesday morning including The Don himself, setting up a potentially thrilling competition.

But it was no surprise when The Bloke turned in a blistering one stroke under the card performance (83,12,71), to beat Thombei the Mist (96,20,76), by four strokes with Nurse Min (105,27,78), a couple of strokes further back.

This meant The Bloke took the major Bladder points for the day (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates The Bloke on an excellent win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup to be run on Good Friday late in March. (See Full SHIT 2024 event report).

Australian Master Open Kup (AMOK), January 2024

Date: 26/01/2024
Course: Growling Frog, Woodstock, Victoria

TJ

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘TJ Runs AMOK Again

As always, the first nnomads Golf Club major event for the year, was the ‘Australian Masters Open Kup’ run at The Growling Frog on Invasion Day. This year the turnout was good with nine contenders stepping onto the 1st tee in somewhat windy and challenging conditions.

Of note was the fact that no player broke the 100 strokes mark in a game of ‘maximum’ which probably says a lot about nnomads golf in 2024. That said, players clearly had a lot of fun on the day illustrated by the jocularity in the car park after the game.

Within that context, it was TJ (100,22,78) who was the standout once again, winning by 3 strokes from equal 2nd placegetters Billy Bob Thornton (108,27,81), and Circuit Board (117,36,81). And of course, TJ won it last year meaning the AMOK trophy went straight back into TJ’s large and very full trophy cabinet for another year.

This meant TJ took the first major Bladder points for 2024 (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2024 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2024, the first Triggered Major for the year to be run in March. (See Full AMOK 2024 event report).
